BALDWIN — A fifth straight loss for the Ottawa High School girls basketball team sends them to 1-6. The Lady Cyclones fell 73-28 Tuesday at undefeated Baldwin.

It was the fourth straight game the team has lost by 27 points or more.

Baldwin’s speed gave Ottawa problems throughout the game. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 28-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

“We tried a lot of new things out there like pulling the defense back, but we were still getting burnt on the back side no matter how fast we were trying to get back,” Jamie Porter, OHS head girls basketball coach, said. “They are a quick team, and they’ve got some athletes out there.”

With key league games upcoming, Porter’s message to her team after the loss was positive.

“I told them whenever you play good teams like this, it makes you better even if you do lose,” she said.

Baldwin’s Abby Ogle led all scorers with 24 points. Sutton Jung, senior guard, led Ottawa with 12 points, and Payton Bruce, junior forward, snagged 11 rebounds.

Ottawa plays 6 p.m. Friday at Eudora.
