EMPORIA — The final day of the Flint Hills Shootout basketball tournament features two area squads facing off.

The West Franklin and Central Heights High School boys basketball teams play for fifth place 1:30 p.m. today at White Auditorium in Emporia.

After falling to Mission Valley in the opening round 4-5 seed matchup, the Falcons dominated eighth-seeded Chase County 62-38 Thursday. The team came out strong offensively, Micah Tempel said, and finished with eight players contributing points.

“We came out hot,” Tempel, WFHS head boys basketball coach, said. “We played as a team and got some great contributions from guys we were looking to get some more out of.”

Hunter Lewis led the team with 19 points, and Tempel noted Matthew Gilkey and Alex Seyler — who scored 10 points apiece — as his key contributors.

Central Heights, meanwhile, got a big win over Northern Heights Thursday to advance. Led by key performances by Matt Cubit, Seth Burroughs, Caleb Meyer and Bryce Sommer, the Vikings toppled Norhtern Heights 64-55.
