EMPORIA — A 2-1 tournament record and a fifth-place finish capped off a week in Emporia for the Falcons.
The West Franklin High School boys basketball team routed Central Heights 55-39 Saturday in the fifth-place game of the Flint Hills Shootout at White Auditorium in Emporia.
The Falcons jumped to a huge lead in the first half, outscoring the Vikings 26-2 in the first quarter. They extended that lead to 40-7 at halftime thanks in part to 13 first-half points from Hunter Lewis, and seven first-half points from Clayton Noyons.
“We played an incredible first half,” Micah Tempel, WFHS head boys basketball coach, said. “It really came from that defensive end. We held them to two and five points in the first half. The kids really played hard, played great and played together.”
Central Heights outscored the Falcons 21-9 in the final quarter thanks in part to seven points from Matt Cubit, but it wasn’t enough to complete a comeback.
Lewis finished with 19 points, followed by Cade Fischer who had 10 points. Cubuit had 13 points for the Vikings.
West Franklin is set to play Jan. 30 at Waverly.
Central Heights plays today at Osawatomie.
