DES MOINES, Iowa — The Braves came out with a winning record against some of the top teams in the nation.
The Ottawa University men’s volleyball team finished 2-1 at the Molten Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa Thursday and Friday, topping No. 5 Culver-Stockton College and No. 6 Cardinal Stritch University, both in straight sets. The team’s only loss came to Saint Ambrose University in a five-set thriller during Thursday’s late match, 25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 19-25, 15-12. Ottawa had an 11-10 lead in the fifth set against Saint Ambrose before the Fighting Bees won five of the final six points.
PJ Tulikihihifo, junior outside hitter, paced the OU offense. He had a team high 37 kills in 73 total attacks throughout the three matches. Twenty of those kills came in the Saint Ambrose match. Daniel Jacobs, senior outside hitter, added 36 total kills in 78 total attacks.
Errol Basconcillo, seniro libero, finished with 26 total digs, and Luke Pope, senior setter, had 103 total assists.
OU (2-2) plays 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lindenwood University-Belleville in Bellville, Illinois.
