WELLSVILLE — Tournament week for the Lady Eagles ended on a sour note.

The Wellsville High School girls basketball team fell 51-49 Saturday to Nemaha Central in the third-place game of the Top Gun Tournament at WHS, 602 Walnut St., Wellsvile.

Aided by 26 points and 10 field goals from Laura Macke, senior, the Thunder overcame a 36-32 Wellsville lead heading into the fourth quarter to win. Nemaha Central scored 19 points in the final eight minutes.

Wellsville was led by Demi Aamold, sophomore, who scored 14 points for the Lady Eagles.

WHS plays today at home against Prairie View.

The Piper High School girls won the Top Gun Tournament, beating undefeated Baldwin 57-47 Saturday in the championship game. It marked not only the first loss of the season for Baldwin, but the first time in three years the Lady Bulldogs did not win the tournament. Piper was the last team to win besides Baldwin in 2014.
