The Braves got revenge for their season-opening loss.

The Ottawa University men’s volleyball team surged to its sixth straight win Saturday, toppling No. 1 Grand View University at Wilson Field House, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 29-27. OU lost at Grand View Jan. 17 in five sets in the first match of the season.

The Braves dominated the first set, jumping out to a 21-10 lead on a kill by Daniel Jacobs, senior outside hitter.

The Vikings rebounded in the second set, but OU almost rallied. Grand View had a 20-15 lead, but a 5-2 run got the Braves within two points. Ottawa scored two straight points off kills by Brandon Oswald, junior outside hitter, and Jacobs to make it 24-23, but Grand View scored the set-winner on a kill by John Chamone on the next play.

That was the last time the Braves stumbled late. A kill by Jacobs in the third set gave OU the win after Grand View rallied late to make it 24-23. The Vikings then had set point three times in the fourth set, but three straight errors (one serving, two attacking) with the score 27-26 Grand View sealed the victory for OU.

Jacobs finished with 22 kills versus eight errors on 48 total attacks. Oswald had 14 kills versus four errors on 26 total attacks. Errol Basconcillo, senior libero had 16 digs, and Luke Pope, senior setter, had 49 assists and 11 digs.

The No. 5 Braves play 7 p.m. Wednesday at home against No. 7 Park University.
