Summer baseball is heading for home.

The 73rd consecutive season for American Legion Baseball in Ottawa is set to start with tryouts 11 a.m. Saturday. The makeup date if there is rain will be 2 p.m. Sunday with updates coming online from the Ottawa American Legion Facebook and Twitter pages.

There are openings for this year’s team and those interested can e-mail or send a message to the Facebook account.

Players who have concluded their high school baseball season can attend open practice 5 p.m. today at Orlis Cox Sports Complex, 901 W. Second St., Ottawa.

This year’s head coach is Lance Fuller Jr. and the assistant coach is Kyle Altic.

The defending state champion Ottawa Arrows (AAA) begin their season with a doubleheader starting 6 p.m. Tuesday at Topeka. The team then hosts the Jim Allen Wood Bat Tournament June 1-3 at Orlis Cox. Teams set to attend the tournament are (junior pools) — Ottawa A’s (Single A team), Junction City, Blue Springs Elks, Clay Center, Lawrence, Great Bend, FIKE and West Franklin Brigade. Senior bracket teams include the Ottawa Arrows, Kansas Senators (Topeka), Great Bend and Salina.
