EUGENE, Oregon — Ottawa’s own Kord Ferguson gets the chance to put an exclamation point on an already impressive track and field season.
Ferguson competes at the NCAA DI Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Eugene, Oregon as a junior thrower for the University of Alabama. It marks his third season as a member of the Crimson Tide, already etching his name in the record book.
Ferguson is a dual-qualifier in the shot put and discus, finishing fourth and seventh in the events, respectively, May 24-26 at the NCAA East Preliminary Round. His mark of 65-02 in the shot put at prelims was the second-best distance in school history. He threw 180-06 in discus, and has a career-best throw of 201-07 that he hit in 2017.
Ferguson competed in the shot put late Wednesday, finishing 13th out of 23 with a throw of 63-7.5. He is set to throw discus 5:05 p.m. Friday. He is in the first of two flights.
