Three Braves highlight this season’s KCAC preseason volleyball team, the most of any program.
Two seniors — Kenna Hall, middle blocker, and Liz Heit, libero, as well as junior outside hitter Yuleika Jimenez were selected to the team, announced Friday by the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Hall, a native of DeSoto, appeared in 157 sets and 43 matches in 2017. She was named first team AVCA All-West Central Region and first team All-KCAC. Hall was named KCAC Attacker of the Week once. She finished the season with 563 kills, a .282 attacking percentage, 12 assists, five service aces, 70 digs and 107 blocks. Hall finished the season ranked fifth in the NAIA in total kills (563) and 32nd in kills per set (3.59). She had a career high 21 kills against Bethany College on Oct. 4. Entering her senior season, Hall has appeared in 296 career sets, accumulating a total of 888 kills, a .241 attacking percentage, 137 digs and 197 blocks. In two seasons, Hall has put her name in the OU career record book. She is ranked eighth in kills (888), eighth in kills per set (3.00), seventh in attacking percentage (.241), 10th in attempts (2,238), ninth in solo blocks (39), 10th in block assists (158) and 10th in blocks (197).
Jimenez joined the team mid-season last year out of Caracas, Venezuela. She appeared in 95 sets and 26 matches earning first team All-KCAC honors. Jimenez finished the year with 362 kills, a .196 attacking percentage, four assists, 65 digs and 21 blocks. She earned KCAC Attacker of the Week honors once. Jimenez tied the school record for single game kills, finishing with 31 kills against Kansas Wesleyan University Oct. 19.
Heit, a native of Augusta, appeared in 157 sets and 43 matches on her way to being named second team All-KCAC at libero in 2017. She finished the season with 787 digs, 84 assists and two kills. Heit had a career high 33 digs twice with the last being against McPherson College Oct. 14. In her previous three seasons, she has appeared in 243 matches. She has 927 digs, 39 service aces, 96 assists and five kills. Heit has put her name in the OU career record book. She is ranked eighth in digs (927) and eighth in digs per set (2.57).
Ottawa University volleyball is set to open the 2018 season 3:30 p.m. Aug. 24 against Bethany College at the KCAC Fall Fling Tournament in the Hutchinson Sports Center.
