BALDWIN CITY — With its win Wednesday, this year’s Ottawa University women’s soccer team made history. The Lady Braves topped their non-conference rival up U.S. 59, Baker University, for the first time in school history.
Brooke Mays, senior forward, scored the match’s only goal at the 31:41 mark in the first half. Amanda Valentine, senior goakeeper, had five saves, including two in the final seven minutes of play, to keep the Lady Wildcats off the board in the 1-0 victory.
Ottawa was narrowly outshot 9-8, but had the advantage in shots-on-goal 6-5. Mays led the team in total shots with four (three on-goal), and Abigail Rosales, senior midfielder, had two shots, both on-goal.
The No. 16-ranked Lady Braves (2-0) play 2 p.m. today at home against Morningside College.
