Wellsville’s mantra is the next guy up every season. It was that way again to start the 2018 season. The Eagles rolled to a 50-16 victory Friday night over Anderson County in Garnett.

“I was proud of the way we played,” Wellsville coach Brad Burkdoll said. “It is always good to see our next wave of guys step up. We have good kids.”

The senior class gave the Eagles great leadership.

“That is vital,” Burkdoll said. “A lot of these guys have started for two or three years. The guys know the system.”

Senior quarterback Zach Vance threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

“We have good receivers,” Burkdoll said. “The offensive line protected really well. Anthony Signs played great at running back.”
