Neither Ottawa nor Morningside could manage a goal in the second half or double overtime in Saturday’s 1-1 tie.
Morningside’s Austin Lingle scored the men’s soccer match’s opening goal in the 12th minute. Ottawa’s Cain Scott, sophomore forward, scored the equalizer in the 28th minute off an assist by teammate Matt Steeper, senior midfielder. The final 82 minutes of the match, including two 10-minute overtimes, went scoreless.
Morningside outshot Ottawa 22-11, and had a 12-5 advantage in shots-on-goal. Lewis Verdouw, senior midfielder, led the OU offense with five shots, three on-goal. John Spells, junior goalkeeper, had two saves for the Braves.
The Braves (1-0-1) hit the road for a 4 p.m. match Wednesday at Nebraska Christian College in Omaha, Nebraska.
