SPRING HILL — The Lady Cyclones took one of three matches Thursday. The team topped Piper 25-16, 26-24 while falling to Blue Valley 25-7, 25-14 and Spring Hill 27-25, 25-17 at the Spring Hill Quad.

The Ottawa High School volleyball team (2-4) will play 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bonner Springs.


OLATHE — Olathe Heritage handed Wellsville High School volleyball its first loss of the season Thursday. The Lady Eagles fell 25-20, 12-25, 25-21, marking a split at the Olathe Heritage Christian triangular.

Wellsville won its first match, sweeping Paola 25-18, 27-25.

Seniors stepped up big for the Lady Eagles. Madie McCoy finished with 14 kills, 13 assists and 16 digs. Grace Showalter had 22 assists, 10 kills and three aces, and Ally Newhouse finished with 27 digs at her libero position.

Wellsville (6-1) plays today in the Baldwin Tournament at Baldwin High School, 415 Eisenhower St., Baldwin. Wellsville’s pool includes Gardner, Bonner Springs and Paola — 6A, 5A and 4A teams, respectively.


OSAGE CITY — The Lady Falcons took a step back with a pair of losses Tuesday at Osage City. The team fell 26-24, 25-13 and 26-24, 19-25, 25-17.

Alex Coopman, sophomore, had nine kills, five aces and six blocks — five of which came in the second match. Ainsley Corwine, sophomore, had 31 assists at setter, seven kills, six digs and two aces. Jenna Walters, freshman, had nine kills, nine digs and three aces. Medow Watts, senior, finished with nine digs and a 2.19 serve receive average.

“We took ourselves out of both matches with too many unforced errors,” Angie Corwine, West Franklin High School head volleyball coach, said. “Our hitting efficiency for the two matches was .065, and our serving in the second match was 81 percent. We have to work on our confidence level and not letting mistakes take us out of the match. This will definitely be a focus for the entire season.”

The Lady Falcons (2-2) are back in action Tuesday at Mission Valley in Eskridge.
