Three matches to go and Ottawa is looking at an opportunity to host a regional tournament.

Ottawa High School boys soccer (7-6) dropped a close 1-0 match at home to Eudora Thursday, putting the team sixth in the 17-team regional standings as of Friday. The top four seeds host regionals.

Ottawa plays Monday at Highland Park (2-12) in the final road match of the regular season. The team then hosts Louisburg (5-8) Tuesday and Paola (8-5) Thursday on Senior Night to wrap up the schedule.

“We are definitely looking to win next week,” Roland Jaworksi, OHS head boys soccer coach, said. “We have three matches and we’d like to win all three. If we get three wins, we should be hosting a regional, which would be a first for me as a coach.”

It would also be a chance to right the ship following a frustrating loss to the Cardinals. The match was played at Ottawa University due to wet field conditions at OHS. Eudora scored the match’s lone goal with 10 minutes left in the second half.

“Usually we play really well on turf because we tend to pass the ball quickly and we adjust well on turf,” Jaworski said. “We just didn’t possess the ball well in the first half. They knew they weren’t playing well and they went back in the second half and played better with possession. The opportunities we had, though, we didn’t execute. This is the most frustrating game we’ve had to lose.”

After a three match win streak, Ottawa is 1-2 in its last three.
