The Swede men's basketball team finished up their preseason workouts with a trip to Coronado Heights where they were given the chance to overlook the whole Smoky Valley. There, head coach Dan O'Dowd spoke to the team about the tradition of excellence Bethany College upholds.
"I went to Bethany college and was a student-athlete…" says O'Dowd, "I have a lot of pride in this school and I wanted to show our players that they are a part of the Bethany College family. That means that from this point forward everything they do is a direct representation of Bethany, and our basketball program. I want them to understand that it's a big responsibility as well as a tremendous opportunity."
The Swede's men's basketball team made the trip to Wichita on Sept. 29 to volunteer at the Susan G. Komen Race for The Cure. The team was up bright and early at 5 a.m. to make the drive and help set up for the race, where they then manned stations helping to direct traffic, cheer runners on, and help continue to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research.
The Swedes started official practice Oct. 1, and will play their first game of the non-conference season against Midland University(NE) on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2p.m. inside Hahn Gymnasium.
