ATCHISON — Ottawa’s season fell just short of an NAIA tournament berth. A tough draw in the NAIA Opening Round match ended the Lady Brave soccer season as No. 9 Benedictine College shut out OU 3-0 Saturday in Atchison.

The Lady Ravens lost in last year’s national champioship match, and were out for blood from the start. Benedictine’s Anna Romero scored just 1:33 minutes into the match with an assist from Molly Schmidt and Olivia Meyers off a free kick. Romero struck again at the 19:08 mark, this time assisted Abbie Hair. Less than five minutes before halftime, Hair scored a goal of her own to make it 3-0 at the break. Ottawa failed to get off a single shot in the first 45 minutes.

While the Lady Braves did manage seven total shots (five on-goal) by the end of the match, it wasn’t enough to bring down Benedictine. The Lady Ravens out-shot OU 20-7 and had a 15-5 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Amanda Valentine, Ottawa senior goalkeeper, tallied 12 saves. Seniors Ady Barraza, midfielder, and Brooke Mays, forward, had two shots each.

Ottawa finishes its season 15-5-1.
