WELLSVILLE — Senior Zach Vance hit a huge milestone in helping Wellsville dominate Tuesday. The Eagle boys basketball team routed visiting Baldwin 80-52 to rebound from Monday’s loss at Burlington.

Vance scored 19 points in the contest to surpass the 1,000-career point mark. He joins an elite list of six other players to accomplish that feat in school history — Brent Dorsey (1,879 in 90-94); Rick O’Neil (1,214 in 66-70); Aaron Todd (1,199 in 85-89); Trenton Meyer (1,160 in 07-11); Josh Flett (1,068 in 97-01); and Colin Wright (1,028 in 05-08). Vance hit four field goals, a trio of three-pointers and went 2-2 from the line. Teammate Jackson Dwyer led all scorers with 24 points, 12 of which came in a lopsided third quarter.

Baldwin took an early lead with WHS rallying for a narrow 35-32 advantage at halftime. The Eagles erupted for a 30-7 run in the third quarter that put them up for good.

Wellsville (9-7) is set to play today at West Franklin (4-13) in a make-up game.

CENTRAL HEIGHTS 60, ANDERSON COUNTY 53

The Viking boys earned a huge win over their 4A opponent Tuesday. Senior Matt Cubit was a catalyst for Central Heights in its 60-53 victory over 10-5 Anderson County.

Cubit scored 27 points, all from the floor, and the Vikings outscored the Bulldogs 35-23 in the second half.

Anderson County was led by Carson Powelson, who scored 16 points. Central Heights senior Bryce Sommer added 13 points for the Vikings on 9-11 shooting from the foul line.

It was Central Heights’ third straight win. The team (13-5) is tentatively set to play Friday at Marais des Cygnes Valley (1-18) in Melvern.

POMONA — A five-game losing streak was snapped Tuesday in the West Franklin boys’ 57-48 home win over Marais des Cygnes Valley.

Senior Tanner Sink led the Falcons with 14 points, 10 of which came in the second half.

West Franklin (4-13) hosts Wellsville (9-7) today in Pomona in a make-up game.
