Area prep softball closed out the season Monday with losses by Wellsville, West Franklin and Central Heights.

Wellsville gave top-seeded, undefeated Burlington all it could handle in the opening round of 3A regional softball in Burlington. The Lady Cats scored a run in the top of the first and two more in the third. Wellsville’s lone run came on a solo shot by Lexi McDaniel in the sixth. That was all the Lady Eagle offense mustered in the 3-1 loss.

WHS collected four hits, two for extra bases including a Maggie Heath double. Burlington collected 10 strikeouts versus one free pass to the Eagles.

Jayden Hull tossed six innings of three-run ball for the visitors, allowing eight hits while striking out one and walking one.

Wellsville finishes the season 6-13.


OSAGE CITY — The Lady Falcons drew tough competition in their opening regional game. The team fell 15-0 in three innings at No. 2-seeded Osage City.

West Franklin finishes its season 5-12.


WAVERLY — Central Heights also faced a top team in its 2A regional first round game. Chase County topped the Lady Vikings 15-0 in three innings Monday in Waverly.

Central Heights finishes the season 0-19.
