PAOLA — After a season filled with first-place finishes, Ottawa High School boys golf came up just short of a team state berth. The Cyclones finished fourth out in its six-team 4A regional Monday at the Paola Country Club. The team score of 363 was 11 strokes behind third-place Louisburg (352).

Despite not qualifying as a team, OHS will be represented at 4A state by junior Cade Gollier and seniors Isaac Bones and Dylan Fanning following each of their regional performances. Gollier led the charge by placing seventh overall at Paola with an 86. That was 13 strokes behind individual regional champion Calvin Dillon of Louisburg (73). Bones tied for 11th with an 88, and Fanning tied for 14th with an 89 to make state.

“We are excited to have three golfers representing Ottawa at the state tournament,” Mark Eggold, OHS head golf coach, said. “But this was a disappointing way to end the season for the team. One of their goals was to go to the state tournament as a team, but it wasn’t meant to be.”

Richard Blevins and Collin Hanson both tied for 26th after shooting a 100. Zach King placed 32nd with a 102.

Gollier, Bones and Fanning will compete at 4A state starting 9 a.m. Monday at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield.
