The Ottawa University Athletic Department had another successful year in the classroom with 19 of 28 teams named to the 2018-19 NAIA Scholar Teams list. Ottawa had 13 a year ago.
“It’s always great to see the results of hard work and commitment by our student-athletes and coaches be recognized,” Arabie Conner,” OU director of athletics, said. “A goal of all our programs each year is to earn NAIA Scholar Team recognition. Many of our student-athletes and coaches work hard to find balance between the demands of their sport and their priority to focus on their studies. Although always a work in progress, our coaches strive to instill in their athletes that hard work and commitment cannot be compartmentalized. Instead, it needs to become a consistent character trait that will carry them into their careers and throughout life. When successfully developed, it can be life-changing. It’s encouraging to see more of our teams recognized this year and it’s something for which we can all be very proud.”
