The Ottawa Arrows surrendered eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to Great Bend Thursday in their 13-3 run-rule loss at the American Legion AAA/AA State Tournament in Hays.

Ottawa committed three errors in the uprising and five total. The Arrows were within 5-3 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but only could get one out.

The Arrows led 1-0 in the first inning on Michael Hull’s RBI single. Great Bend answered back with four runs in the third inning.

Ottawa rallied within 4-3 with two runs in the fourth inning on Wyatt Johnston’s two-RBI single.

Great Bend added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to forge a 5-3 lead.

Ottawa had five hits in the game. Ottawa is winless in its two pool games in the tournament. The Arrows (14-21) concludes pool play 12:15 p.m. Friday against Emporia.
