Wreck report likely a ruse

By DOUG CARDER, Herald Staff Writer

A 53-year-old Pomona woman came face-to-face with an unwanted visitor this weekend.

The woman told Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputies that a man forced his way into her rural residence about noon Saturday — after first knocking on the front and back doors and believing no one was home. She told deputies that when she confronted the intruder, he claimed to be seeking help for the victims of a wreck nearby and then he left her home. Sheriff’s deputies, Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and volunteers were unable to locate the wreck for miles on each road around the area, according to a sheriff’s office report.
