The Central Heights High School boys let mistakes compound Tuesday after a good first quarter at home against Iola.

The Vikings rolled to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter, but started to unravel in the second quarter. The Vikings fell 62-58.

“As the game started we were hitting on all cylinders,” Central Heights coach Rusty Cannady said. “Defensively we were alert and active and offensively we couldn’t miss. We jumped out to a 20-10 first quarter lead and things were feeling good.

“As the second quarter started to wind down, so did we. Forcing passes with bad angles and Iola turning those into easy uncontested points. We did not do a good job of only allowing a mistake to be one mistake.

“That mistake would multiply into others as the game went on.

“Our frustration was making us take quick shots and getting out of the things we do as a team.

“Iola was the more physical team and give them a lot of credit for making us frustrated.

“They are well coached and do a good job of moving the ball from side-to-side.”
