Wellsville boys soar to top seed

The Wellsville High School boys basketball team is streaking into this week’s Baldwin Invitational.

The Eagles sport a 7-2 mark and is the top seed. Wellsville plays 7 p.m. today against No. 8 Perry-Lecompton.

The semifinals are Friday and the place games set for Saturday. The Eagles play Bonner Springs or Kansas City Christian in Friday’s game.

Anderson County is the third seed and plays 5:30 p.m. today versus Augusta. The other game pits Baldwin against Ward.

Wellsville is coming off a 54-45 win Friday over Osawatomie.

Carter Mann paced Wellsville with 19 points. Cole Silsby netted 18. Luke Meyer had 11.

Osawatomie (45) — Chism 10, England 11, Soucie 10, Rayl 10, Booe 2, Gaines 2.

Wellsville (54) — Breithaupt 2, Silsby 18, Kearney 4, Meyer 11, Mann 19.
