CH Viking girls fall in tourney

PLEASANTON — The Central Heights High School girls basketball team found some offense in the fourth quarter, but could not overcome a double-digit deficit to Jayhawk-Linn in Tuesday’s first round game of the Pleasanton Invitational.

The Vikings fell 43-36. Central Heights plays 7 p.m. today against Crest.

Central Heights fell behind 32-18 after three quarters and scored 18 points in the fourth.

“We started the game out great in the first quarter and took a quick 5-0 lead,” Viking coach Scott Lane said. “We then had a horrible second quarter and looked flat in everything we did. We had 18 points in the fourth which doubled our total for the other three quarters.

“We have to be more consistent as a team and play the entire game the way that we played the fourth quarter.

“Brianna Erhart for us played a great game and attacked the basket the way she needs to the rest of the season.”

Erhart finished with 17 points. Whitney Kraus tossed in 10.

Central Heights (36) — Erhart 17, Kraus 10, Stegner 1, Meyer 6, Hayward 2.

Jayhawk-Linn (43) — Spencer 2, Jackson 4, White 26, Barren 3, Wilson 4, Whitley 4.

Council Grove 54, West Franklin 22

EMPORIA — Top-seeded Council Grove downed West Franklin, 54-22, Monday in the first round of the Flint Hills League Tournament in Emporia.

West Franklin plays 3 p.m. today against Herington.

West Franklin (22) — Reed 4, Steele 2, Bailey Shaffer 1, Whittington 6, Flory 6, Miller 2, Yelland 2.

Council Grove (54) — Poole 16, Jimerson 6, Ziegenhirt 1, Hula 13, Peterson 5, Morgan 11, Leydig 2.
