BALDWIN CITY — Two Pioneer League rivals went toe-to-toe Saturday in the third-place game of the Baldwin Invitational in Baldwin City.

Anderson County and Wellsville had a few momentum swings. Anderson County held off a late rally by Wellsville to forge a 56-53 victory.

Anderson County led by 15 points heading into the fourth quarter, but the Eagles outscored the Bulldogs, 22-12, to make things interesting at the end.

Anderson County used a 23-8 advantage in the second quarter to erase a 14-8 Eagle lead after the first quarter.

Carter Mann, an all-tournament team selection, paced the Eagles with 18 points. Shamus Kearney netted 16.

The Bulldogs were led by Eric Tastove, an all-tournament team selection, with 24 points. Walter Spencer had 19 points. Anderson County’s Drew Mechnig also was an all-tourney team member.

The two teams play a rematch 7 p.m. Friday in Wellsville.

Osage City 66, West Franklin 53

EMPORIA — Osage City had too much firepower for West Franklin Saturday in the third-place game of the Flint Hills League Tournament in Emporia.

Osage City steadily pulled away to down the Falcons, 66-53.

The Indians led 19-15 after the first quarter. The Falcons trailed 34-26 at halftime. Osage City led 48-39 after three quarters.

Matt Gray led West Franklin with 17 points. Brady Geist tossed in 12 points.

West Franklin plays today at Central Heights.
