Area lawmaker speaks out on immigration

TOPEKA — Ottawa area lawmaker Tom Holland, D-Baldwin City, joined several House Democrats Wednesday in announcing legislation to stiffen penalties on employers who intentionally hire illegal immigrants or fail to adequately check applicants’ documentation.

“Illegal immigration erodes the wages of working Kansas families,” Holland said at a Statehouse press conference. “Making employers accountable is the only way to effectively address the issue of illegal immigration.”
