AC girls clip Wellsville again

WELLSVILLE — For the second time in eight days, Anderson County High School girls basketball team punched out a win over Wellsville.

The Bulldogs used a 15-0 third quarter to topple the Eagles, 50-34, Thursday in the Top Gun Tournament in Wellsville.

The Bulldogs used a 15-0 third quarter to topple the Eagles, 50-34, Thursday in the Top Gun Tournament in Wellsville.

Anderson County plays 1:15 p.m. today against Piper in the fifth-place game, while Wellsville plays 1 p.m. in the seventh-place game against Kansas City Christian.

Wellsville scored all but two of its 34 points in the second and fourth quarters. Anderson County led 8-2 after the first and 21-16 at halftime.

Jaime Mersman led Anderson County with 15 points. Tayler Porter tossed in 10 points.

Wellsville was led by Darcy Bonzo and Ashley Sparks with eight points each.

Anderson County (50) — Porter 10, Stevenson 1, Adams 7, Ratliff 8, Moody 6, Scheckel 3, Mersman 15.

Wellsville (34) — Cunningham 5, Newhouse 2, Bonzo 8, Kayhill 2, McTaggart 6, Geist 2, Sparks 8, Strawn 1.

Wellsville 61, AC 55

WELLSVILLE — The second quarter turned the game in the favor of Wellsville. The Eagles had a 17-6 advantage in the quarter and rode that lead to a 61-55 victory over Anderson County.

The Bulldogs were coming off a win over the Eagles Saturday in the Baldwin Invitational.

Carter Mann paced the Eagles with 22 points. Cole Silsby tossed in 15.

Eric Tastove led Anderson County with 20 points. Drew Mechnig had 13.

Wellsville (61) — Breithaupt 5, Silsby 15, Hillman 4, Kearney 4, Mann 22, Dalrymple 6.
