POVERTY: Recession, budget-crunch could worsen poverty problem

The number of Kansans living in poverty has increased by more than 30 percent since July 2000 and a recent downtick might end up being short-lived.

If past U.S. recessions are any indication, the current economic downturn is likely to find even more Kansans out of work, and living at or beneath the poverty line.
