Fire leaves home a total loss

Pomona, Lincoln-Ottawa-Harrison, Williamsburg and Centropolis Township firefighters battled a blaze about 9 a.m. Saturday that started in the basement of a rural Franklin County home west of Ottawa. The home at 1364 Labette Road was a total loss, according to a Franklin County Sheriff’s report.

Brooke Phillips, 22, Ottawa, told sheriff’s officers the fire started in a room in the basement.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the sheriff’s report said.
