OU softball battles elements in sweep

The Ottawa University softball team first cleared the field of snow from Friday night then had to battle freezing temperatures Saturday in Ottawa.

The Lady Braves persevered with a sweep of Grand View University, 4-1 and 2-1. Ottawa scored single runs in the third and fourth innings and added two in the sixth in the opener.

Catcher Mikayla Oliphant led Ottawa with two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Hailie Ray went the distance in picking up the victory. She gave up five hits.

Grand View struck first with a run in the first inning, but was held scoreless the rest of the game by Morgan Shramek, who surrendered six hits in the nightcap.

Ottawa scored twice in the third inning with the help of two errors. Alyssa Miller and Katarina Burns had two hits each.

Ottawa (4-0) plays 2 p.m. today in Oklahoma City against No. 4 Oklahoma City.
