CH duo sweeps shot put events

WELLSVILLE — The throwing events will be key all season for the Central Heights track teams.
It was clearly evident in the opener Tuesday at the Snowball Relays in Wellsville.
The Central Heights boys scored 27 of its 42 points in the discus, javelin and shot put events, while the Viking girls netted all but three of its 50 points in the field events.
The Wellsville boys finished fourth with 72 points, scoring in 12 events.
The Wellsville girls were fourth with 71 points.
The Central Heights boys were paced by defending state champion Jerimiah Wingate in winning in the shot put.
Central Heights’ Kayla Schwab won the girls shot put.
The Wellsville boys had a meet record set by Austen Moore in the 200-meter race at 22.8 seconds. He also won the long jump.
“I thought it was an extremely competitive meet for this early in the season, which hopefully will make us better as the season goes along. We have to improve in many areas, but I think that for the first meet of the season, we did a pretty good job.” Wellsville boys coach Eric Evans said.
