Area students compete at Kansas History Day

Seven area students placed at the fifth annual Kansas History Day competition March 1 at Fort Scott Community College.

Ashley Ebeck, Wellsville Middle School, placed second in the historical papers category with her paper, “Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad.”

Hannah Kelley, Wellsville Middle School, placed third in historical papers with “Salem Witch Craft Trials: Cessation of Spectral Evidence Use.”

The team of Lindsay Frank and Anna Stone, Ottawa High School, placed first in exhibits with “The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project: An End to the Space Race.”

The team of Miranda Naylor, Megan Bledsoe and Cynthia Brown, Anderson County High School, placed second in exhibits with “In the Sewers of Lvov.”

More than 50 middle school through high school students competed from eight schools.

The theme for this year’s competition was “Conflict and Compromise” in history and the event was open to all area high school and middle school students.
