Want to be Lane’s mayor? Just write in your name

By JENALEA MYERS, Herald Staff Writer

If you live in Lane, you could be the town’s next mayor.

A write-in winner not only will determine Lane’s next mayor but also the third open spot on the city council. Incumbent Deanna Carroll filed for re-election, and newcomer Larry Bryant is running for an open council spot.

Larry Bryant

Bryant said he wants some change on the council.

“I don’t like some of the things going on in Lane,” he said. “I think there are some people on the council who seem like they don’t want any change.”

Bryant, who is retired, has lived in the community for 12 years.

Stray animals are a concern for him, he said.

“We need some different rules for animals running around and getting into trash,” he said. “There used to be some type of leash law.”

This will be Bryant’s first venture into politics.

Deanna Carroll

Carroll has served on the city council for at least two years.

She ran unopposed in the 2005 election.
