By The Herald Staff | 4/13/2012

An unprovoked attack had a local resident shaking his head and Ottawa police combing a neighborhood Thursday afternoon on the east side of town.

A 26-year-old Ottawa man told police he was working on a car in his driveway about 3:10 p.m. in the 500 block of South Oak Street when an unknown man approached him. The victim said they exchanged words and then the suspect hit him and threatened him with a knife before fleeing the scene, according to a police report.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds, with short curly hair.

Police are continuing their search for the suspect, Ottawa police Lt. Adam Weingartner said Friday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to call the Ottawa Police Department, (785) 242-2561, or Franklin County Crime Stoppers (888) 311-8477.
