Ottawan killed in single-vehicle wreck

By JODIE GARCIA, Herald Staff Writer

An Ottawa man died and two others were possibly injured early Sunday morning in a one-vehicle crash in Osage County.

Javier G. Rodriguez, 30, Ottawa died after the vehicle he was riding in flipped several times at 2:23 a.m. Sunday on K-31 west of Lyndon, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The report said a 2003 Hummer H2 driven by Ruben S. Callejas, 22, Osage City, crossed the center line into eastbound lanes of traffic and entered the south ditch.

The vehicle reportedly struck a street sign and dirt embankment, flipping several times before coming to rest on its top.

In addition to Rodriguez, Luis A. Sanchez, 27, Ottawa, was a passenger in the vehicle.

Callejas and Sanchez had possible injuries, the report said, but no information was provided on what, if any, hospital they were taken to.

Rodriguez was not wearing a seat belt, the report said. Callejas and Sanchez were wearing their seat belts.
