‘Wondering’ how to vote?

We are very excited to have the Franklin County Courthouse nominated as one of the 24 finalists for the 8 Wonders of Architecture for the Kansas Sampler contest. The courthouse was picked as one of the 24 finalists out of more than 200 nominations. Please go to www.kansasSampler.org and vote for your top eight picks. Voting ends June 15 and the winners will be announced June 30. There are paper ballots available also if you would like to stop by the Visitor Information Center, 2011 E. Logan St., and pick one up.
The 19th season of the Franklin County Horticultural Growers Association’s Ottawa Farmers Market opens 8 a.m. Saturday on the east lot of the Orscheln Farm and Home Center, 2008 S. Princeton St., Ottawa. Market times remain the same: 8 a.m. Saturdays and 4 p.m. Wednesdays. There will be plenty of plants, fruits and vegetables and other items of interest. The local market attempts to follow trends, broaden the market by introducing new items and varieties, and continues to abide by governing guidelines. The Ottawa Art Guild still has room on their Kansas City Art Bus Tour scheduled Saturday. They will be stopping at the Brookside Art Fair, Nelson-Atkins Art Museum and the Kemper Museum of Art. All this is available for only $20 a ticket. Please call Bob March at (785) 242-9561 to book your seat.
Washburn Towers Auditorium opens with “Beauty and the Beast.” Ottawa University Theatre’s community production of “Beauty and the Beast” will be performed 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. This production is part of OU’s annual Reunion Celebration weekend Thursday to Sunday; alumni are welcome and encouraged to attend. Fish Trot For Kids is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday at the Garnett Country Club Golf Course. It is free and your kids will thank you for it. The fish trot is presented by Friends of the Prairie Spirit Trail, Kansas Wildscapes, OK Kids Foundation and the Garnett Recreation Department.
The Kansas Sampler Festival kicks off this weekend in Concordia. The Kansas Sampler Festival was designed to bring communities and attractions from all over the state together to make it easy for the public to discover day trip possibilities.The festival provides the public a sample of what there is to see and do in Kansas. This festival is for you if you are looking for hiking trails, historic sites, natural landmarks, unique restaurants, off-the-beaten track eateries, architectural gems, hole-in-wall performing centers, artists-at-work, specialty shops, or have-to-be-there Kansas events.

Antique Auto Swap Meet Saturday and Sunday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St., Lawrence. Trade, sell or swap antique autos and antique parts. It is sponsored by the Lawrence Region Antique Automobile Club of America. Admission is free and hours are 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
