Veterans to collect items for patients

A local veterans’ group will collect items for patients at the Leavenworth Veterans Affairs Hospital from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Wal-Mart SuperCenter, 2101 S. Princeton St.
A list of items was requested by the volunteer services department at the hospital, Ron Bishop, president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 912, which is doing the collection, said.
Items requested include: deodorant and shower items, toothpaste, brushes and other oral hygiene items; sugar-free and healthy treats, microwave popcorn and decaf coffee; underwear and socks for men up to 4X and for women of all sizes; good used or new clothing, jackets and hats; seasonal items, books, stamps, puzzles and games.
All containers should be plastic and alcohol-free.
