Unsung heroes recognized
|

Terry Wallace, Ottawa Optimist Club member, is pictured with Danielle Renyer, Kyle Carey and Marcus Smith, who received the Ottawa Optimist Club’s first “Unsung Hero Awards” April 24. Each received a plaque and a $50 cash award. The awards were started by the Wichita Optimist Clubs in 2005 and are given to young people who have succeeded in school and life despite facing adversities and obstacles. Students were nominated by the staff at Ottawa High School. The award will now be presented each year by the Ottawa Optimist Club as a way to follow its motto of “bringing out the best in kids.”
