It’s an exclamation that Bobbie Hawkins and her daughter, Lauren Freudenburg, are used to hearing: “You look just like each other!”
But this mother-daughter duo, winners of The Herald’s Mother-Daughter Look-Alike Contest, doesn’t mind.
“We are very close. She’s my best friend,” Freudenburg said.
Hawkins, a sergeant with the Ottawa Police Department, said her daughter really started to resemble her when she was in high school and especially when she cut her hair short.
Freudenburg said people always told her that she and her mom looked like sisters. But it was a comparison she didn’t mind at all, she said.
Hawkins said many of the women in their family look alike.
“Almost like little clones,” she said.
Freudenburg, who lives in Missouri with her husband, Ian, and their 11-month-old son, Dallas, is a Sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps. She is currently is being transferred to San Diego.
But before she makes the move, the “look alikes” will have an opportunity to spend Mother’s Day together, Hawkins said.
She said nearly 30 family members will get together for dinner and to catch up.
Both mother and daughter said they are — and always have been — especially close. Hawkins said the two talk on the phone about six times a day.
“We share quite a bit of stories and advice and support for each other,” Hawkins said.
