CLAUDE E. “BUD” SMITH

Claude E. “Bud” Smith Jr., 75, of Louisburg, Kan., died Thursday, June 4, 2009. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at Penwell–Gabel Louisburg Chapel. Burial to follow in Aubry Cemetery, Stilwell, Kan.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2009, at the chapel.

Bud was born July 27, 1933, in Pomona, Kan., to Claude Smith and Vivien Shoffner-Smith. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1951. He then served in the U.S. Army in Panama. In 1957 he returned to Ottawa and married Janice Pearson. As a millwright at Colgate-Palmolive, he raised his family in Stilwell, where he retired in 1990.

Bud was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, coaching/umpiring baseball and building anything by hand. He was a loyal man that would help anyone in need, never meeting a stranger. He did everything with a sense of humor and hard work.

He is survived by wife, Janice, sons: Greg (Laura), Kevin (Brenda); sisters, Joan Kirk and Sharon Fisher; brother, Richard Smith; and grandchildren; Heather (Chad), Danielle, and Taylor. He was preceded in death by son, Jeffrey.
