Bringing back Black Jack

Spectators line up Saturday as a reenactor portrays John Brown, a renowned Kansas abolitionist, during a reenactment of the Battle of Black Jack at Black Jack Battlefield and Nature Park near Baldwin City. The battle was fought in 1856 between abolitionist forces led by Brown and a pro-slavery militia led by Henry Clay Pate. The battle, involving nearly 100 men, has been called one of the first of the Civil War.
