Parents looking for the Ottawa school district office can look no further than downtown.
Last week, USD 290 moved its central office to Suites 1 and 2 of 416 S. Main St. The office was at 123 W. Fourth St.
“The Main Street location is nice for people to stop in,” Superintendent Dean Katt said.
The school district began leasing the Fourth Street building from the city in 1996. Before that, the central office was located at what’s now the Adult Education Center, 420 S. Main St.
District offices fill one of the suites in the new building, and the district’s special education department is next door. Katt said unlike the Fourth Street building, the new one meets standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“That’s one of the biggest benefits,” he said.
Other benefits include more space for records and employees, Katt said.
“It just seems like everyone is part of a team,” he said. “Attitude change has been wonderful. Just having it open has made a big difference.”
School board meetings also will be moved from Ottawa Middle School to the central office. Katt said if everything goes according to plan, the June 23 work session would be at the new location.
