WILLIAMSBURG — Beachner Grain has bought Lindale Grain, Williamsburg.
The purchase was finalized Friday afternoon, Dale Hermreck, who had owned the Williamsburg elevator, said.
“This reunites two sister facilities,” Gary Beachner, chief executive officer of Beachner Grain, said.
At one time, the Richmond and Williamsburg elevators were owned by the same company, he said. When they were sold in 1992 they were sold separately — Richmond was bought by Beachner Grain and Hermreck bought the Williamsburg elevator.
Earlier this month, Beachner, which is based in St. Paul, bought the financially-troubled New Horizons Farm & Home Cooperative which had elevators in Anderson, Miami and Linn counties.
“It really fits well together,” Beachner said.
The Lindale facility, which is served entirely by trucks, has a storage capacity of about 215,000 bushels, Hermreck said.
Unlike other elevators, Lindale handled grain, mostly soybeans, corn, milo and wheat; and didn’t offer fertilizers, he said.
The elevator has one employee.
Beachner said he’s not planning any major changes in operation at the Williamsburg elevator.
However, the elevator will benefit from the economy of scale that the Beachner elevators offer, he said.
The elevator has been a long-time fixture of Williamsburg, and at one time, was along the railroad when it served the city, Hermreck said.
“It goes all the way back to horse-and-buggy days,” he said. “There were Model Ts that came to use it.”
