Wreck that killed Osage County teen near Melvern Lake under investigation

By The Herald Staff

The Osage County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a weekend wreck that killed an Osage City teen.

Cassandra Morgan, 17, was northbound on Hoch Road just after midnight Saturday when a grain truck she was driving hit a guardrail, a news release from the sheriff’s office said.

Law enforcement responded to the accident at 333rd Street and Hoch Road, which is just south of the western portion of Melvern Lake, the release said. Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 1966 International grain truck she was driving was reported stolen out of Coffey County, and alcohol was a possible factor in the accident, the release said.

Anyone with information about Morgan’s whereabouts prior to the accident can call the sheriff’s office at (785) 828-3121 or Crimestoppers at (877) OSCRIME.
