Stolen property found at Ottawa pastor’s home

By The Herald Staff

An Ottawa pastor was released on bond Thursday after a search warrant earlier that morning led to his arrest.

Lt. Jimmie Dean, with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, said a search warrant was presented to Kent Mathews, 629 E. 15th St., at 8:17 a.m. Thursday.

Stolen property was found in Mathew’s house, and he was arrested for felony theft, Dean said. Further details of the arrest were not immediately available.

Mathews was the pastor at the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Ottawa, 401 W. 13th St, for more than 10 years before renouncing his ordination in April.

He has been serving as the pastor of Grace Community Fellowship, which worships at Washburn Towers, 506 S. Main St., since May.
