EVERETT H. ROECKER

Everett H. Roecker, 92, Richmond, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at the Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Therese Catholic Church, Richmond.

He was born Sept. 23, 1916, at Scipio to Peter J. and Mary (Feuerborn) Roecker.

He grew up in the Scipio area. He also lived in the Waverly area and the Williamsburg area. He moved to Richmond in 1974.

He entered the U.S. Army April 1, 1942. During World War II, he served as a tech sergeant in the 359th Infantry of the 90th Division. He saw battle in the European Theatre and landed at Normandy on D-Day. His service earned him a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was discharged Dec. 1, 1945.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, dancing and spending time with his family and his grandchildren.

He was a member of the St. Therese Catholic Church, Richmond, and the Garnett V.F.W. Post 6397. He served as post commander and on the Honor Guard for many years.

He was a farmer. He worked at the Richmond Co-Op from 1974 until he retired in 1981.

He married Ruth Maxine Counselman May 16, 1948, at Ottawa. She preceded him in death Jan. 6, 1975. He married Geneva Doudna May 14, 1977, at Richmond. She survives.

Survivors also include children, Karen Geiger, and her husband, Alfred, and Janis Modlin and Barb Roecker, all of Ottawa, Elaine Burchett, and her husband, Larry, Branson, Mo., Teresa Hermreck, and her husband, Mike, Williamsburg, Larry Roecker, Lane, and Susie Roecker, Ottawa; a brother, Alfred Roecker, and his wife, Mary, Williamsburg; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He also was preceded in death by sisters, Esther Bouroughs and Eletta Martin; a brother, Ernest Roecker; a grandson, Steve Fisher; and a great-grandson, James Everett Fisher.

Burial will be at the St. John’s Cemetery, Greeley.

Family will meet friends after a rosary service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Garnett.
