Peoples wins regional Olympic meet

TULSA, Okla. — Ottawa High School junior Kearston Peoples, the all-time Kansas leader in the girls’ shot put, won the Region 9 Junior Olympic gold medal Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.

Peoples won the meet with a toss of 44 feet, 6 inches to advance to the national meet, July 24, in Omaha, Neb. She earlier won the Missouri Valley regional meet.

In May, Peoples set the all-time Kansas best with a toss of 49-10 1/2 at the 4A regional in Ottawa. A week later, she won the 4A state crown.
