ATLANTA, Ga. — The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its winners for the 2007-08 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll Monday and Ottawa University Women’s Basketball finished in the top 25 in the NAIA. This award, given in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, awards teams throughout the nation that carry the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the entire season based on the nomination submitted by WBCA-member head coaches.

The Lady Braves, led by head coach Bruce Tate, finished 15th in the NAIA in team GPA with a 3.377. Baker University, led by Susan Decker was the only other local school to finish in the top 25. Her Wildcats had a team GPA of 3.248.

“Being a basketball student-athlete is tough, with such a long season and these young ladies were able to balance student and athlete extremely well,” Tate said. “This is an outstanding honor for the team and our basketball program. I’m extremely proud of the team’s accomplishment off the hardwood.”
