Wellsville man recovering from burns

By JODIE GARCIA, Herald Staff Writer

A Wellsville man is on the road to recovery following an accident last month that sent him to intensive care with serious burns.

Glenn Layton of Layton Real Estate, Wellsville, was burning some items in early June when something blew up and burned him, his family said.

He was taken by air ambulance to the University of Kansas Medical Burn Center and remains in intensive care.

His daughter, Barbara Kearney, declined to provide much detail on Layton’s condition, adding that it changes by the hour.

“His progress is slow, but he is healing,” she said.

Kearney said doctors have no estimates on how long Layton will be in intensive care or the hospital.

She said right now, he’s not allowed to have visitors.

But the Wellsville community, as well as friends and family from all over, have jumped to support Layton and the family, she said.

She said supporters are flying red and blue “Ribbons of Encouragement.” The colors represent Layton’s two favorite teams, the KU Jayhawks and the Wellsville Eagles, Kearney said.

Those who want to follow Layton’s progress can read his Care Pages at www.carepages.com. After signing in, updates can be found under “glennlayton.”
